Nissan Sentra vs. Hyundai Elantra


  • Right away, considering pricing for your next small sedan is a smart way to start, and you'll be impressed with how the new Nissan Sentra is more affordable than the Elantra. This is the case right in the starting base levels of both sedans, and when you advance to higher trims with more features. This is an especially impressive advantage for the Sentra when you consider how much better equipped it is compared to Hyundai's small sedan. 

  • Speaking of features, there are a number of standard driver aids in the Sentra that either aren't offered at all with the Elantra, or are too costly to consider adding to the mix. Standard blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and rear automatic braking start you off nicely with the Sentra, while the Elantra doesn't offer plenty of those systems, or makes them too expensive to add on.

  • The Sentra also includes some smart standard convenience features, such as voice recognition and a keyless access system. Those are features available in the Elantra as well, but only in top trims and for considerably more than what you'll spend on the base level of the Sentra.

Nissan Sentra vs. Honda Civic


  • While the new Honda Civic is certainly one of the most popular small sedans, that works against its favor when comparing to the new Nissan Sentra. Of course the Sentra comes in at a more affordable price than the Civic, starting in its base level and when comparing similar trims, all the way to the top-end editions.

  • Even with a lower price, the new Sentra is far better equipped than the new Civic. While the Civic offers similar driver aids like rear automatic braking, rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring, those are only offered in higher trims, while they all come standard for the Sentra.

  • Meanwhile, the Sentra also provides more bang for your buck with a number of convenience features that are available in its higher trims that either aren't offered with the Civic, or too expensive to consider. These include push-button start, which is standard in the Sentra, and remote engine start and leather-appointed seating options are available in Nissan's small car, but not with the new Honda Civic.

Nissan Sentra vs. Toyota Corolla


  • The Toyota Corolla is another highly popular small sedan which of course makes it the more expensive option than the Nissan Sentra. You'll easily be able to fit more features and options into your budget when selecting the Sentra, so keep that in mind as you look for the best commuter sedan.

  • Though Toyota is known for its standard safety system, the Sentra is better equipped with standard driver aids than the Corolla. Standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a standard rear automatic braking system start you off nicely, while you'll either not find those offered with the Corolla, or have to spend more to get those features.

  • The Sentra and Corolla compare similarly in terms of fuel efficiency, but when comparing the base setups, the Nissan sedan's output is a little peppier. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the Sentra delivers 149 horsepower, compared to only 139 horsepower from the Corolla's 1.8-liter four.
